WHO: The original author is anonymous, but the work is traditionally ascribed to Moses.

WHAT: The work is a saga, or prose epic (Cf. What is an Epic?).

WHEN:The oldest portions of Genesis were probably written c. 1000 BCE, but the extant work is c. 400 BCE or later. (Cf. Genesis: Tell, Write, Print for a discussion of the poem's timeline.)

WHERE: The work was originally composed in Hebrew in the land currently known as Israel.
