ATTW is now accepting applications from individuals interested in serving as the next book review editor or special issues co-coordinator for Technical Communication Quarterly.

Individuals interested in serving in either of these roles should send a letter of interest (clearly specifying which position is of interest) and an abbreviated CV via email to ATTW President, Bill Karis, at karis@clarkson.edu . Applications will be accepted until January 2, 2007.

TCQ Book Review Editor

The book review editor for TCQ is responsible for soliciting scholarly reviews of published works that are of interest to researchers in technical communication. This person works with publishers, scholars, and the editor of TCQ to develop timely, significant review essays to be published in regular and special issues of the journal. In addition to being a talented editor, this person should have strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills. This person should also have a strong sense of current trends in research of interest to scholars in the field.

Primary responsibilities for the book review editor include

  • Working with publishers to secure review copies of recently published titles
  • Identifying qualified authors to prepare reviews of these titles
  • Working with authors as necessary to help them develop significant review essays
  • Supplying edited reviews to the TCQ editor for publication in the journal
  • Keeping accurate and complete records of available titles, reviews solicited, and reviews published

TCQ Special Issues Coordinator

A TCQ special issues coordinator is primarily responsible for working with a co-coordinator to solicit compelling proposals for special issues of TCQ . To complete this task, the special issue co-coordinators work with proposal authors to develop their ideas for special issues so that the proposed subjects will be appealing and of value to the readership of the journal. Special issue coordinators should (1) have a solid understanding of the scholarship in the wide range of topics associated with our field, (2) have a successful history of publishing their own scholarship, and (3) be active in ATTW and other professional organizations. Prior editing experience is also valuable.

Primary responsibilities for a special issues coordinator include

  • Soliciting proposals for special issues, lining up two special issues for each volume of TCQ . Such solicitation includes
  • Supplying a call for proposals to conferences and to interested colleagues
  • Advertising a call for proposals in the ATTW newsletter and list
  • Advertising a call for proposals in TCQ
  • Working with interested proposal authors to develop their ideas into a proposal and call for papers to be considered by the ATTW Executive Committee
  • Sending the proposal and call for papers to the ATTW Executive Committee
  • Reporting the results of the ATTW Executive Committee 's decision to the proposal author(s)
  • When a proposal has been approved, notifying the proposal authors that the TCQ Editor will contact them to schedule the issue for the next available slot for a special issue and to pass on relevant documents to guide their development of the special issue
  • When a proposal is not approved, deciding whether the proposal should be revised for reconsideration by the ATTW Executive Committee or should be abandoned; advises proposal author(s)
  • Keeping track of the development of special issues
