Prof. Unger is the author of four novels, including Leaving the Land, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and winner of the Society of Midland Authors Award, in print for more than 20 years and now available from Bison Books. His most recent novel is Voices from Silence (Wyatt/St. Martin's), to appear in French translation in 2006 from Daniel Arsand/Editions Phebus in Paris. A new book of short fiction, Looking for War and Other Stories, was published in 2004 (Ontario Review Press/W.W. Norton distributors). Professor Unger's many honors and distinctions include a fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation for the writing of fiction, a Fulbright Scholarship in Comparative Literature, and the 2005 Nevada State Board of Regents Medal for Creative Activities. Professor Unger is the co-founder of the MFA in Creative Writing International program at UNLV.
