Associate Professor
Dr. Mays specializes in 19th-century British literature. Before joining the UNLV faculty in 2001, she served as a Preceptor in the Harvard University Expository Writing Program and as Assistant Professor of English at New Mexico State University. Co-author — with Alison Booth — of The Norton Introduction to Literature, Dr. Mays has also published articles on 19th-century British publishing and reading practices, working-class poetry and autobiography, and the production of literary anthologies. Her book-in-progress, How the Victorians Invented Themselves, explores how, when, and why 19th-century Britons came to think of their era and certain people and things associated with it as “Victorian.”
