Dr. Mays specializes in 19th Century British Literature. Before joining
the UNLV faculty in 2001, she served as a Preceptor in the Harvard University
Expository Writing Program (1994-6) and as Assistant Professor of English
at New Mexico State University (1996-2001). A co-author of The Norton Introduction
to Literature (8th edition, 2001) and The Norton Introduction to Poetry
(8th edition, 2002), she has also published several articles on nineteenth-century
British publishing and reading practices and on working-class poetry and
autobiography. Her latest, “Domestic Spaces, Readerly Acts: Reading(,)
Gender and Class in Working-Class Autobiography,” will appear soon
in Nineteenth Century Contexts.
