Stephen G. Brown is Assoc. Prof. of English, Director of the Composition
Program. His book Words in the Wilderness received the prestigious W. Ross
Winterowd Award (2001) for the outstanding book in composition theory.
His co-edited collection, Ethnography Unbound: From
Theory Shock to Critical Praxis, was published in 2004 (SUNY P). His latest book, The
Gardens of Desire: Marcel Proustand the Fugitive Sublime, was also recently published
by SUNY P. He has published numerous articles on writing and literacy in
College Literature, Review of Education, and Journal
of Advanced Composition.
In addition to teaching graduate courses in classical rhetoric, composition
theory, and special topics courses in eco-composition, postcolonial theory & composition,
and power and praxis, he teaches undergraduate courses in advanced composition,
american nature writing, and modern comparative literature.
