THE SPEAK EASY

Glenn DeeDon's Poetry experience has spanned the last twenty five years and then some. He has published a number of poems in various anthologies and is currently working on his first book, to be released in the Summer of 2000. His poetry reflects his philosophies, the pain of loves and lost loves, and often contains a large dose of cynicism. His former trucking career and his continual search for new horizons have lent much to his experience. He currently resides in Las Vegas and can be heard on an occasional Saturday Night at Borders on Decatur.

In Search of...

I have soared

with the seagulls.
Yet, like Jonathan
their restraints vex me.

I have seen Vesuvius

from afar.
I have been to
San Saba's shore.
I have walked with
the Grecian Gods,
would that I
possessed their ichor.

But, in my search

of the ethereal,
and my pursuit of
the anti-cosmic,
I may be destined
to the plight of Icarus.

Yet, I dare not,

I can not refrain.
For still I seek
the Hapes Dragons,
and Lavaca's tide,
and more...Still More!

Lonesome Freedom

The lonesomeness of this freedom

contradicts the word itself.

The emptiness of the lonely heart

swallows all perceived logic.

How hard the heart grows

to protect the mind's ideals,

has no effect, no strength

against prevailing somber winds.

When they howl 'round about

and knock you down,
`and there's no love
to hold you!
